Making
the Guitars
Materials
David Merrin's guitars are constructed using only the very best materials
and David personally chooses all woods used for each instrument.
The
Soundboard
European Spruce is the preferred wood for the soundboard as David believes
this wood gives the best tonal range.
Backs
and Sides
Indian or Rio rosewoods are used.
Neck
The neck is made using Honduras cedar.
Fretboard
The fretboard is made from ebony.
Rosette
and Inlays
All the inlays and rosette are made by David Merrin and are unique to
each guitar.
Construction
The
techniques of construction have been developed from traditional
methods; the soundboard is constructed using fan strutting with
open harmonic bars; the head is fitted with a traditional 'V'
joint.
The guitars are light in weight in order to give a clear and balanced
sound with good tonal variety.
Finishing
All guitars are French polished by David. French polishing is the best
finish for a guitar, as it does not inhibit the sound.
